The Margot Lloyd Vocal Scholarship was established by the North Shore Chorale in 2006 in recognition of Margot's services to music, her selfless dedication in particular to vocal and choral music and her tireless enthusiasm for the careers of young singers. Public attendance at the Preliminaries and Finals: Public and friends and family of the contestants are encouraged to attend the Final Concert and/or the Preliminaries to hear the wealth of young talent perform and to cheer on your favourites! Total prize money $5,000 1st Prize - $4,000 2nd Prize - $1,000 In this our Silver Jubilee year, The North Shore Chorale has great pleasure in inviting young vocalists to compete for the Margot Lloyd Vocal Scholarship 2011 Applicants must fullfil the following entry criteria:
Applications:
Applications for the scholarship must be sent to the Chorale at the address stated on the application form provided, accompanied by payment of the application fee ($40), and the supporting information detailed on the application form. (See left panel for downloading application forms and info sheets). Applications close at 5.00pm on Friday 12 August 2011 and must be accompanied by the application fee of $40.
Venue: The Preliminary Round and Finals will be held at: St George's Presbyterian Church 2 The Terrace, Takapuna, Auckland. Competition Dates and Times: Preliminaries: Sat. 27th Aug., time to be advised after close of entries. Finals: Sun. 28th Aug., at 5.30pm Applicants must prepare two pieces of contrasting musical style, preferably in two different languages, one of which may be English. A variety of genres is encouraged, e.g. opera, oratorio, musical theatre, folk, sacred. Preliminary Round: For the Preliminary Round, applicants will be required to sing one piece of their choice of no more than four minutes duration. This piece must also be sung at part of the finals concert, if the applicant is successful in the preliminary round. Finals: Finalists for the Scholarship will be required to present a live performance of two pieces of contrasting style and genre, one of which will be the piece chosen to sing in the preliminary round. Accompanist: It will be the responsibility or the applicants to provide their own accompanist for both the Preliminary Round and for the Finals performance. Music: Original copies of the two pieces, labelled with the applicant's name, must be provided to the adjudicators at the performances. has gone on to win the 2011 North Shore Aria competition with a $5,000
prize and a $2,000 grant to enable him to enter the McDonalds Aria
Contest in Sydney. We wish him the very best for this competition!
